FAQ

Where does the counselling take place?

Counselling takes place either in our counseling center at Grindelallee 9 or alternatively by phone or e-mail. You can find the contact details and availability here.

At what times can I get advice?

You can find the accessibility and opening hours on the respective pages of our counseling centers:

On which topics can I get advice?

In our Counselling Centre for study financing – BeSt, we advise you on all questions regarding student financing (e.g. BAföG, scholarships, student credits or loans).

The Counselling Center Accommodation – BeWo answers your questions about student housing in Hamburg.

In the Counselling Centre for Social & International Affairs – BeSI, our experts are available to provide you with advice and assistance on topics such as studying with a child/family and studying with a chronic illness/disability, and are the first point of contact for international students.

Can I also get advice over the phone?

Sure! Our counselling can also take place by phone, you can find the contact details and availability here.

How much does the consultation cost?

Counseling is free of charge for students who are enrolled at one of the Hamburg universities we serve.

Do I need an appointment to get a counselling?

At the Counselling Centre for study financing – BeSt, you can simply drop by during opening hours for a brief consultation. However, if you would like to take advantage of a detailed student finance consultation, you should make an appointment in advance by phone.

There are no fixed appointments at the Counselling Centre Accommodation – BeWo, just come by during office hours. If your concerns are more extensive, you are welcome to call in advance so that the colleagues can prepare. If you want to find out about waiting times for a place to live, it is helpful if you have already registered with us in advance via the online application.

Our Counselling Centre for Social & International Affairs – BeSI will also advise you without an appointment, but here, too, it is helpful if you call us beforehand. In general, if you come by without an appointment, it is possible that all counseling appointments are already fully booked and you may have to come back on another day or allow for a longer waiting time. Also, it is helpful if we have some information about your concerns before your visit. Therefore, it is best if you call us in advance to make an appointment.

To whom will my data from the counselling be passed on?

The secure handling and protection of your data is our top priority. Our work is also subject to a comprehensive confidentiality obligation, compliance with which is a matter of course for us. Should an exchange with third parties be necessary or useful, we will in any case obtain your consent to share the data beforehand.

At the Counselling Centre for Social & International Affairs – BeSI and the Counselling Centre for study financing – BeSt, you can also receive anonymous counseling. Simply inform our advisors of this at the beginning of the conversation.
