As an inter-university social facility, we actively shape the higher education community, offering services for students and acting as a competent partner for universities.
Our main task areas are:
more than 21,000 guests a day are fed
at 13 cafeterias and 23 cafés/café-shops
· Student accommodation
26 student residences with more than 4.400 places available in rooms and apartments
· and education assistance – BAföG
Some 72 million Euros in aid paid out every year.
We also provide general social counselling, five childcare
centres and other social facilities.
Students are actively involved through the Studierendenwerk’s contribution, and influence the Studierendenwerk’s developments through committees.
The Hamburg Studierendenwerk is a public-law institution, providing social and financial services for students. It is financed by the proceeds from food and drink purchases, rent, parent fees for childcare, student semester fees, and grants from the Hanseatic City of Hamburg for education assistance, childcare fees etc.
The City of Hamburg helps fund the Studierendenwerk Hamburg in areas such as accommodation and dining facilities.
