None at all is not a viable option!

Which insurance is essential while studying? Not all insurance is appropriate for students - what policies you will need is explained here...

Health and long-term care insurance coverage

Students matriculating at a university must provide proof of health and long-term care insurance coverage. The health insurance carrier issues proof in the form of a health insurance certificate. Different insurance coverage options are available, depending on prior coverage, age, marital status and the length of the studies:

• Family coverage through parents, spouses or life-partners in the statutory health insurance program (GKV)
• Mandatory Student Coverage (GKV)
• Voluntary Student Coverage (GKV)
• Private Health Coverage (PKV)

You can find more about this in the Health Insurance leaflet.

Accident Coverage

Information about the accident insurance coverage for students is given by Unfallkasse Nord and Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (statutory accident insurance). If you have an accident, it is important to tell your doctor that it is an accident and that you are a student. In addition, you need to write an accident report and submit it to your university (student office) immediately.

Private liability coverage

Everyone needs private liability coverage. Why you should have this type of coverage, what various forms of coverage exist, and what to look for when concluding an insurance agreement is explained by our Private Liability Coverage leaflet, which was published in collaboration with the Consumer Offices/Hamburg.
